BE A MAN, DON'T CRY

Gender bias and patriarchal society are more harmful for men than women. That's why we need gender equality. To achieve this, we should start working on our EQ.
Patriarchal societies, by definition, prioritise male power and authority, which can create certain expectations and pressures on men. However, it is important to note that patriarchal systems also perpetuate gender inequalities that adversely affect women in numerous ways.
Emotional Expression: Patriarchal societies enforce rigid gender roles and expectations, which can limit men's ability to express their emotions fully. Men may feel pressured to conform to traditional notions of masculinity, which can lead to emotional suppression, increased stress, and mental health issues.
Violence and Aggression: Patriarchal societies tend to perpetuate and normalise aggressive behaviour in men, linking masculinity with dominance, power, and control. This can contribute to higher rates of violence and aggression among men, both within their own gender and towards women. Men may also feel pressured to engage in risky behaviours or physical confrontations to prove their masculinity.
Mental Health: Due to societal expectations, men may be less likely to seek help or support for mental health issues. Patriarchal norms often discourage men from acknowledging or discussing their emotional struggles, leading to higher rates of undiagnosed and untreated mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety.
Suicide Rates: Studies consistently show that men have higher rates of completed suicide compared to women. The societal pressure to be strong, self-reliant, and stoic in the face of adversity can prevent men from seeking help or reaching out for support during times of crisis.
Workplace Expectations: Patriarchal societies expect men to be the primary providers for their families, which can create significant stress and financial burden. Men may feel compelled to prioritise their careers over their personal lives and may face societal stigmatisation if they choose to pursue traditionally female-dominated professions or prioritise family responsibilities.
While men may face certain challenges within a patriarchal society, it is essential to recognise that women often experience systemic disadvantages, discrimination, and violence on a broader scale.
We should start seeking to address gender inequalities and create a more equitable society for all genders, acknowledging that dismantling patriarchal systems benefits everyone, including men.
It is important to understand that discussing the drawbacks of a patriarchal society for men does not diminish the significant harm it causes to women and other marginalised genders.
